Recommended Reading for Children on Friendship

As your children move into the fall and get settled into school and other activities, take time to read books to them that support making friendships. There are also some good storybooks for all ages on how to handle being bullied.
To nurture your child’s relationship with God, be sure you make the stories about friendship from the Bible as much a part of your children’s literary experience as the excellent story books on this month’s list.
Some stories from the Bible about friendship:
- In John 15:13-15, Jesus said: "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. You are my friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you."
- 2 Kings 2: Elijah and Elisha
- 1 Samuel 18-19: Jonathan and David
- Ruth 1: Naomi and Ruth
- Mark 2:1-12: Four Friends
- Luke 15: 1-7: The Parable of the Lost Sheep
- Luke 19:1-10: Jesus befriends Zacchaeus
